Start with pitch, because everything downstream depends on it
You cannot size a materials order from a floor plan, because a sloped roof is always larger than the footprint it sits on. The roof pitch calculator gives you the multiplier that closes that gap, and it tells you which slope class the roof falls into — which in turn decides whether shingles are even permitted, whether the underlayment needs doubling, and whether the crew will charge a steep-pitch premium.
