Specifying a regional product without importing a problem
- ●Freight is the reason the category exists. Roofing material is heavy relative to its value, so a plant serves the radius it can truck to before shipping costs overwhelm the price. That single economic fact explains most of why regional roofing brands exist at all.
- ●Check the warranty and the certification program on their own terms. A regional manufacturer’s program is not automatically weaker than a national one, but it is a different document with different requirements. Read what it actually says rather than assuming it mirrors the national program you already know.
- ●Distribution decides whether you can buy it. A regional product outside its home territory usually means a special order, a longer lead time and freight — and a repair years later means the same thing again, for a homeowner who no longer remembers what went on the roof.
